Lambley Lane Latest

06th Sep 2021

Lambley Lane will be re-open on the 13th of September 2021.

As all residents of the village will know only too well, Lambley Lane has now been completely closed for coming up to nine months, and for several months before that, had time-restricted usage. This has meant that to gain access to Gedling village or to the Colwick Loop Road beyond, drivers have had the choice of either a long trip through Lowdham and Burton Joyce or potentially getting caught up in the traffic delays across Mapperley Plains.

Bad weather throughout last winter and a burst Severn Trent water pipe (unrelated to Gedling Access Road works) have been blamed for the delayed re-opening, which was planned to be at the end of June.

The good news is that, according to a joint statement issued by Nottinghamshire County Council, Balfour Beatty and VIA, Lambley Lane will be re-open on the 13th of September 2021. But it won’t be as you remember it.

The access from Spring Lane to Lambley Lane will remain pretty much unchanged. The new road layout at the bottom of the hill will be completely different from before.

The statement went on to say “Traffic travelling from Spring Lane will have to stop at the end of the new downhill section of Lambley lane where it joins the Gedling Access Road and turn right. A short section of the Gedling Access Road will then be used before turning left into a new section of road at the side of the site compound before turning right at the new mini roundabout back towards Arnold Lane”.

With the new road layout in mind, it remains to be seen what the signage to Gedling village will be like but hopefully, it will be clear to people using the junction that it will be necessary to turn right, otherwise people will end up at the junction of the Gedling Access Road and Burton Road, a fair distance away from Gedling Village itself.

As all Lambley residents will agree, it will be good to have Lambley Lane back in use and time will tell what impact, if any, the Gedling Access Road will have on the amount of traffic passing through Lambley, particularly at rush hour. Let’s hope that the £40 million expenditure produces traffic reduction not only for Gedling Village but for Lambley as well.
